300 movie trailer analysis

In these following paragraphs I will be a analysing a short clip (trailer) of the popular 2007 hit movie 300, using M.I.G.R.A.I.N analysis to help me along the way.
This movie is a film adaptation of the of a popular graphic novel of the same title and this movie is about is a fictional retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae which is how 300 Spartans fought against the Persian army which were more than a million people.
The movie trailer starts off with the signature introduction of a Warner Bros Movie which consists their logo but customised differently depending on which type of movie is being introduced, so for this one the logo was coloured in blood red colour which would indicate that this movie is going to be about violence and would include bloody scenes, so are all of the other companies which have been shown in the opening credits.
The first scene shows a slow motion clip that is captured in a silhouette-like view of an army of many being pushed of a cliff, this effect may have been used to add intensity and to make people amazed of how this type of lighting is used as the sunlight is behind them and their features cannot be seen, you can see from the setting that the time of this is early morning by focusing on the background scenery.
This movie is a science fiction/ action movie that is unique to other movies because of the unusual effect that is used which is a mixture of animation with real-life video this is called super-imposition chroma key technique and is used to help replicate the imagery of the original comic book and so they can maintain the evil effect of battle they are trying to put across for the audience’s entertainment and to keep the interests of the target audience which are mainly young male adults who are into movies that are jammed packed with action such as this, and is more appealing to them because of the exaggerated violence and blood that is shown in the trailer.

Silent Witness Clip Analysis

I will be analyzing briefly a clip from the popular drama series “Silent Witness” (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00dzz2b/Silent_Witness_Series_12_Terror_Part_1/) looking into and explaining the action codes and the equilibrium, disequilibrium, and the new equilibrium and then using examples to back this up.

Equilibrium:
In the start of the clip it shows and constantly switches between two different scenes one being a Muslim girl who is ready to pray the other being a police force that are getting ready for a raid, I could tell this as guns and body armor are used as action codes so this would contrast each other as a positive religious action is compared with a negative violent police raid but are both preparing for a big moment and was shown to build up tension and this could mean in a broader sense introducing both sides of the story and then continuing to link them while the episode continues, both of these action codes together paints a picture in the viewers heads and picks out a topic of terrorism, as Islam and heavily armed police typically symbolize the word.

Disequilibrium:
As the clip goes on so do the police force approach towards they’re big moment, the women bows (a part of the Islamic prayer) and the police bust in one moment this would be a “disturbing the peace” type of moment where the trouble begins and the story starts to make sense as both stories start to join and a terrorist is pointed out and arrested and then his investigation begins

New equilibrium
The terrorist is proven not guilty and the police let him go this would be a moment where the new equilibrium is introduced.

HEROES TRAILER

In the following paragraphs I will analyse the opening sequence to a trailer for Heroes T.V series using MIGRAIN ANALYSIS.
Media: In the opening seconds the short clip hasn’t got a formal introduction but a quick view into how the series is as is shows a young American teenage male holding a camera recording a very weird footage of a girl jumping off a bridge this firstly would indicate that this T.V series is a science fiction programme as the use of unreal events are occurring just in within the first seconds of the clip because the girl just gets up from the floor with most of her upper body dislocated, she then puts them in place and just walks away all of this is recorded in a low quality camera view to an effect of reality and unprofessional teenage recording.
Straight after this the clips just shows random mini clips of different people around the world and this would indicate that this is a multi-stranded programme with many characters which do not have much association, but they all seem to be talking about a solar eclipse (a rare sighting of the sun being blocked by moon giving a dim the world a dim light during the day) and would also give an impression that the characters of this programme start off distant but would eventually meet because of an important things causing it such as an “Solar Eclipse” , natural lighting is used to show all this would also apply reality.
Institute: popular television broadcasting channel called NBC are the maker and producers of this particular TV series.
Genre: this TV series is a science fiction action.
